1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Aqui Amigo LLC, doing business as Freezah, collects, uses, discloses, and otherwise processes personal information in connection with the Freezah mobile applications (iOS and Android), the website at freezah.com, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). This Policy forms part of our relationship with you along with our Terms of Service.
By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Controller / business
For purposes of applicable privacy laws, Aqui Amigo LLC is the entity responsible for the personal information collected through the Service. Contact details appear in Section 15.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you provide
- Account and identity data — email address, display name, and password (stored in hashed/encrypted form by our authentication provider) when you sign up with email.
- Authentication data from third parties — if you sign in with Apple or Google, we may receive identifiers, name, email, and profile information those providers share with us (subject to your settings with them, including Apple’s Hide My Email).
- Kitchen inventory — food items you add or edit (names, brands, stores, quantities, prices you enter, locations such as fridge/freezer/pantry, use-by or best-by dates, tags, allergens or dietary labels you save, usage and waste history, and shopping-list entries).
- Photos and labels — images you capture or select to identify food, read barcodes or package labels, or store as item photos. Images may include packaging text, barcodes, and whatever else appears in the frame.
- Barcodes and product details — barcode/UPC/EAN values and product metadata associated with your scans or saves (including details you confirm or correct).
- Communications — messages you send to support or other contact addresses, and records of consent (for example agreement to Terms/Privacy).
3.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and technical data — device model, operating system, app version, language, time zone, IP address, and diagnostic logs needed to operate and secure the Service.
- Usage and diagnostics — features used, scan/attempt counters we store to operate the Service (for example daily photo-scan usage), crash reports, and performance metrics when analytics or crash reporting is enabled.
- Cookies and similar technologies — on our website (including the admin dashboard if you use it), we may use cookies, local storage, or similar technologies for essential functionality, authentication sessions, and preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings; some features may not work without them.
3.3 Information from other sources
We may receive information from: app stores; authentication and cloud providers (for example Google Firebase); product databases we query on your behalf (for example Open Food Facts / Open Prices for barcode lookups); and partners who help us operate AI or image-processing features, where permitted by law.
3.4 Sensitive data
Please do not submit sensitive categories of personal information (such as government ID numbers, precise health diagnoses, or payment card PANs) through free-text fields or photos unless we expressly request them for a defined purpose. Freezah is a kitchen inventory tool—not a medical, clinical, or payment product. Photos of food packaging may incidentally include information visible on labels; that is processed only to provide the features you request.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage accounts, authenticate users, and provide the Service across your devices;
- store and sync your kitchen inventory, shopping list, and related history;
- run food recognition, barcode lookup, package/label reading, storage and shelf-life guidance, and related AI-assisted features you request;
- optionally remove image backgrounds so product photos display more cleanly in the app;
- improve a shared community product cache for barcodes (product name, package facts, and similar non-account fields) so future lookups work better for all users—without publishing your email or account identity as part of that cache;
- communicate with you about the Service, security, updates, and support;
- monitor, debug, secure, and improve the Service, including analytics and quality assurance when enabled;
- detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
- comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms, and protect our rights and users; and
- for other purposes disclosed at collection or with your consent.
We may aggregate or de-identify information so it is no longer reasonably linked to you, and use or disclose such information for any lawful purpose (including product metrics and future retail or investor insights that use aggregates/cohorts rather than named households).
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where the GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following bases as appropriate: performance of a contract (providing the Service); legitimate interests (securing and improving the Service, preventing abuse, limited analytics—balanced against your rights); consent (where required, such as certain cookies); and legal obligation.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not use your kitchen data for cross-app advertising or App Tracking Transparency “tracking” as Apple defines that term. We may disclose personal information to:
- Service providers / processors that perform services on our behalf (hosting, authentication, databases, storage, cloud functions, analytics, crash reporting, and AI/image processing), under contractual obligations to use data only as instructed;
- Platform providers such as Apple and Google, as needed to distribute the app and provide sign-in;
- Professional advisers (legal, accounting) under confidentiality obligations;
- Authorities and legal recipients when we believe disclosure is required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Aqui Amigo, our users, or others;
- Business transfers in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, subject to customary confidentiality and continued protection of personal information; and
- Other parties with your direction or consent.
6.1 AI and image processors (current integrations)
When you use scan or guidance features, we may send limited data to processors so the Service can fulfill your request:
- OpenAI — we may send food photos, cropped label regions, barcode/product context, and prompts needed for recognition, shelf-life/storage guidance, or related analysis. Processing runs through our servers (Cloud Functions); API keys are not embedded in the mobile app. Images and prompts are sent only to fulfill the feature you requested.
- remove.bg — when background removal is used, we may send an item or product image to remove.bg so the Service can return a cleaned image for display.
- Open Food Facts / Open Prices — for barcode lookup we may query public product and price databases using the barcode (and related lookup parameters). Those services have their own privacy practices.
- Google Firebase — Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, and (when enabled) Analytics/Crashlytics host and process account, inventory, image, and diagnostic data as described in Google’s applicable terms and this Policy.
These processors receive only what is needed for the requested feature. Freezah does not currently offer paid subscriptions, in-app advertising networks, SMS messaging, or bank/account linking.
7. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and for other legitimate business purposes. Retention periods vary by data category. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify associated kitchen data and authentication records as described below, subject to technical limitations, backups, legal retention, and any de-identified community product fields that are no longer linked to your account.
8. Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information (including use of reputable cloud providers and access controls). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your credentials and for using updated devices and software.
9. Your choices and rights
- Account settings — you may update certain profile information through your sign-in provider or in the app where available.
- Account deletion — you may permanently delete your account in the Freezah app under More → Delete account. This removes your Firebase authentication account and associated cloud kitchen data we maintain for you (inventory, shopping list, scan-usage records, and stored images under your user path), subject to backups and legal retention. You may also email hello@freezah.com to request deletion.
- Access, correction, deletion — you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing hello@freezah.com. We may need to verify your identity and may retain certain information as required or permitted by law.
- Support — for product help, email support@freezah.com or visit our Support page.
9.1 California (CCPA/CPRA) and similar U.S. state laws
If you are a resident of California or another state with comprehensive privacy laws, you may have rights to: know/access; delete; correct; opt out of “sale” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising (if applicable); limit use of sensitive personal information (if applicable); and not be discriminated against for exercising rights. To exercise rights, contact hello@freezah.com. We will respond as required by applicable law. You may designate an authorized agent as permitted by law.
We do not knowingly “sell” personal information as that term is traditionally understood. We do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. If our practices change, we will update this Policy and provide any required opt-out mechanism.
9.2 EEA/UK rights
Where applicable, you may have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection, and withdrawal of consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern.
10. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where required by local law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information.
11. International transfers
Aqui Amigo is based in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our providers (including Google, OpenAI, and remove.bg) operate. Those countries may have different data-protection laws than your home country. Where required, we use appropriate transfer mechanisms (such as standard contractual clauses) with providers.
12. Third-party sites and services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate third-party services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for third-party practices.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised Policy on this page and update the effective date. For material changes, we may provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
